at the annual meeting of the American Society of Anesthesiologists

Weinger, M.D., M.S., will deliver the 2020 Ellison C. Pierce Memorial Safety Lecture at ANESTHESIOLOGY® 2020, the annual meeting of the American Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA), on Saturday, Oct. 3.

Dr. Weinger’s presentation on “Is Safety Becoming the Poor Stepchild of Quality,” will explore how safety and quality have come into conflict and expand on the consequences of failing to invest properly in safety. The session will also include a discussion on the roles of anesthesiologists and how they can become better advocates for patient safety.

This annual honorary lecture was jointly established by the Anesthesia Patient Safety Foundation (APSF) and ASA to recognize and sustain the memory of Ellison C. (Jeep) Pierce Jr., M.D., who was the founding president of APSF and a past president of ASA. Today, the specialty of anesthesiology, ASA and APSF are recognized as pioneers in advocating for patient safety.

Over his three decade-long career, Dr. Weinger has studied and advocated for patient safety with a commitment to bringing scientific discovery to the cause through innovation and education. As the medical director for Ivenix, Dr. Weinger plays an essential role in the company to advance patient outcomes, clinical quality and operational efficiency.
